I was born with only one finger on my right hand (thumb). I remember getting an x-ray that showed bones but nothing ever formed. When I was in 5th grade, Dr. Klug surgically moved a toe from my left foot (next to big toe) and put it on my right hand so I could grip things (located near where the pinky normally is). I remember that it was a long surgery – 10-12 hours.
The surgery has allowed me to do pretty much whatever I want. I don’t see it as a problem to perform everyday tasks. As an example, I ride a Harley and play softball.
If I would have done the physical therapy like Dr. Klug said, I would have an even better grasp now!
Dr. Klug was great and nice. I always remembered him and am so thankful for what he was able to do for me.
After serving the Dayton area for 37 years, Dr. Klug, a valued partner at OA, retired from the practice of hand surgery in June 2019. He still remembers performing Tony’s surgery and his thrilled that Tony’s hand allows him to perform everyday tasks.
